Freedom in My Tongue

There’s freedom in my tongue
Like the chains have been broken within my mind
And simplicity has been banished
Held hostage with broken bones and bandaged

I pay no attention to the irrelevant fears that live within my heart
With each heartbreak I lose more of myself
Placing old habits on the shelf
Right beside my lonely memories of pain

My poetry is my escape
When confusion has made itself my best friend
I retreat to the pages to be saved again
Life has saved me
